SEBASTIAN INLET STATE PARK
This park is basically the dividing line between Brevard and Indian River County. It lies on both sides of the inlet and is a true beach lovers paradise. The north jetty is most popular as a hot fishing spot, as well as the aptly named fishing deck. It’s also perfect for surfers looking to ride “First Peak” and “Monster Hole”. Talk about a good time! During season, the park is a popular place for sea turtle nests and because of the areas natural protection, the beaches are filled with shells for anyone looking to take a treasure home! If you are looking for a more relaxing time, pop over to the lagoon side where the waters are calmer and perfect for kayaking. Looking to stick around? There is also an rv and campsite as well as a boat dock. Rated #1, you can’t miss it.
Whether it’s Mel Fishers or McLarty’s, there’s enough treasure to go around. Both museums are home to artifacts that were salvaged from the ocean floor and local shipwrecks. Check out the treasure maps and flags identifying wrecks that are still around today! Take your time strolling through the gold, pottery, and everyday items from 18th century Spaniards. With short videos, written histories of the treasure hunters and even a full sized cannon, this is a great spot to learn a little about our Treasure Coast.
This 5 acre farm is Sebastian’s hidden gem. Walk the grounds and learn about the many animals, from “Baby Girl” the zebra, to monkeys, goats, llamas, zebu, tortoises, parrots, pigs and more. LaPorte has animal interactions for those wanting to get up close and personal, and the fish feeding is always a favorite. Food and drinks are available as well as leisurely resting spots so you can take your time. A great place for kids and families, this is one you don’t want to miss.
